Number the pages of a PDF

Add Page Numbers to PDF puts page numbers on your PDF in the style you choose: 1, Page 1, 1 of 10, Page 1 of 10, 1 / 10, Roman numerals or – 1 –, at the top or bottom, left, centre, right or the outside edge for books.

Set the first number, text size, colour and distance from the edge, add text before or after, and skip pages such as a cover. Pages stored sideways are numbered the right way up. The preview shows the first page before you start.

Privacy and price

Your PDFs are processed by your own browser (using the open-source pdf-lib and PDF.js libraries), so they’re never uploaded to us or anyone else, and nothing is kept after you close the page. How to use the Add Page Numbers to PDF

  1. Click the box and choose a PDF.
  2. Choose the position, format (1, Page 1, 1 of 10, i, ii…), first number, size, colour and any text before or after. The preview shows the first page.

How do I skip the cover page?

Type 2- in “Pages to number”. Page 2 will show the number 2; tick “Count only the numbered pages” to start it at 1 instead.

Can numbers go on the outside edge, like a book?

Yes. Choose “Bottom, outside edge”: odd pages get the number on the right and even pages on the left.

Is my information uploaded?

No. It works entirely in your browser, so your text and files stay on your device.

Does it work on my phone?
