AI Video Subtitle & SRT Generator

Make timed subtitles from a video or audio file with AI, edit them while you watch, translate them, and download SRT, WebVTT or a subtitled MP4.

A transcript uses 6 exports per 30 minutes of recording (or part), and each AI summary uses 6 + 2 per hour. You see the cost first; downloads are included.

Automatic subtitles for your videos, ready to edit

The AI Video Subtitle & SRT Generator transcribes the speech in your video or audio, splits it into readable, well-timed subtitles, and lets you check and correct every line while you play the video. Download SRT or WebVTT files, translate them, or burn the subtitles into an MP4.

How it works

  1. Choose a fileMP4, MOV, WebM, MP3, WAV, M4A and more. The sound is prepared on your device, so video pictures aren’t uploaded in browsers that support it.
  2. TranscribeSpeech-to-text with word-level timings and optional speaker labels, in 20+ languages.
  3. Edit while you watchEvery subtitle with its start and end time: fix words, split, join, add or delete subtitles, move them all, and find and replace.
  4. DownloadSRT, WebVTT or text, with optional speaker names, or an MP4 with the subtitles burned in.
  • Readable timing

Subtitles follow common guidelines you can change: up to 42 characters a line, 2 lines, about 17 characters a second, and new subtitles at pauses, sentence ends and speaker changes.

  • Quality checks

Flags overlaps, subtitles shown too briefly or too long, lines that are too long, and reading speeds that are too fast.

  • Translation

Translate the subtitles into 20+ languages with AI, keeping every timing, as a separate copy you can edit.

  • Burned-in captions

Make an MP4 with the subtitles drawn into the picture, on your device (videos up to 10 minutes).

  • Edit existing subtitles

Open any SRT or VTT file and use the editor and checks for free.

  • Accurate, not perfect

Speech recognition can mishear names and jargon: add them as special words before transcribing, and check the result.

Price and privacy

Transcription needs a free account and is paid from bought exports or the Monthly 50 allowance: the cost per 30 minutes is shown before you start, and exports are returned if it fails. Translating and tidying subtitles usually uses 1 export per 120 subtitles; editing, checks and downloads are free. The sound goes to our speech-to-text service (AssemblyAI) and is deleted with the transcript after 7 days or when you delete it; translations send only the subtitle text to Anthropic’s Claude. Nothing is used to train AI. Need a full transcript with AI summaries? Use AI Audio & Video Transcription. See pricing.

Questions about this tool

Is the AI Video Subtitle & SRT Generator free?

A transcript uses 6 exports per 30 minutes of recording (or part), taken when transcription starts. Each AI summary uses 6 exports plus 2 per hour of recording. Exports come from £1.00 for 5, or a monthly plan. Downloads are included, you always see the cost before you start, and if anything fails the exports are returned.

How accurate are the subtitles?

Usually very good for clear speech, but speech recognition can mishear names, jargon and overlapping voices. Add special words before transcribing, then check each subtitle while you watch: everything can be edited.

What subtitle formats can I download?

SRT (SubRip), WebVTT (.vtt) and plain text, with or without speaker names. Videos up to 10 minutes can also be downloaded as an MP4 with the subtitles burned into the picture, made on your device.

How are subtitles split and timed?

Each subtitle starts at a natural point (a pause, the end of a sentence or a new speaker) and follows readable limits you can change: by default up to 42 characters a line, 2 lines, about 17 characters a second and 7 seconds. The quality checks flag anything outside them.

Can I translate subtitles?

Yes, into 20+ languages with AI, keeping every timing. The translation is added as a separate copy you can edit; AI translation can make mistakes, so check it.

How much does it cost?

Transcription uses the same price as AI Transcription, shown before you start (per 30 minutes of recording), and exports are returned if it fails. Translation usually uses 1 export per 120 subtitles. Editing, checks, opening SRT or VTT files and downloads are free.

Is my information uploaded?

What you enter is sent to our server to do the lookup, and the result may be cached briefly so the tool stays fast. Nothing else from your device is uploaded.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers, with nothing to install.
