AI Image Upscaler

Make small or low-resolution images 2× or 4× bigger and sharper with an AI model, then download as PNG, JPG or WebP.

Using this tool is free. Each download or copy of a result uses 1 export; the same result again within 24 hours is free.

Increase image resolution with AI

The Soft Premium Tools AI Image Upscaler makes a small or low-resolution image 2× or 4× bigger using Real-ESRGAN, an AI model trained to enlarge photos. Ordinary resizing just stretches the pixels, so enlarged pictures look soft or blocky. The AI model sharpens edges, rebuilds textures and reduces JPEG artefacts as it enlarges, so the result looks clearer. It runs in your browser: your image isn’t uploaded.

How to upscale an image

  1. Choose an imageClick the box, drag a file onto it, or paste one. JPG, PNG or WebP up to 20 MB.
  2. Pick 2× or 4×The finished size is shown before you start, for example 1,000 × 750 px becomes 2,000 × 1,500 px at 2×.
  3. Choose the modelBest quality (ESRGAN Medium) or Fast (ESRGAN Slim) for older devices.
  4. CompareDrag the slider, view side by side, and zoom to 100% or 200% to check fine detail.
  5. DownloadAs PNG, JPG or WebP, without the preview watermark.

What it’s good for

  • Product photos

Enlarge supplier or phone photos for online shops and marketplaces. Check labels and logos afterwards.

  • Old and small photos

Make low-resolution pictures from old phones, scans or the web big enough to print or share.

  • Social media and websites

Get sharp images for banners, thumbnails and posts from a small original.

  • Artwork and graphics

Enlarge drawings, game sprites and digital art with cleaner edges than ordinary resizing.

What AI upscaling can and can’t do

AI upscaling adds detail that looks right, based on what the model learnt from many photos. It is not the original detail, which a small image never contained. It works best on clear but small pictures. It can’t fix badly blurred or out-of-focus photos, and it may slightly change small text, logos, product labels and faces, so check those before you publish or print the result.

Sizes and formats

The output is exactly 2 or 4 times the width and height. Because the AI runs on your own device, images can be up to 2,048 px on their longest side for 2× and 1,024 px for 4×, so results are at most 4,096 px wide. With a graphics card it usually takes seconds. Without one it’s slower, so the Fast model helps. You can download PNG (keeps transparency), JPG (smaller, transparent areas become white) or WebP. Camera and location details (EXIF) aren’t copied into the result. To crop or change the format without upscaling, use the Image Cropper; to make a file smaller, use the Image Compressor.

Price, privacy and licences

Upscaling and comparing are free to try. Each downloaded image uses 1 export, and downloading the same image again within 24 hours is free. See pricing. Your image stays on your device. The preview carries a watermark; no website can reliably block screenshots, so nothing is ever charged for one. The AI models (UpscalerJS ESRGAN) are MIT-licensed and run on TensorFlow.js (Apache 2.0), so you can use your results commercially as long as you have the rights to the original image.

How to use the AI Image Upscaler

  1. Click the box to choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image (or drag or paste it). Its size in pixels is shown.
  2. Choose 2× or 4× and the AI model (Best quality or Fast), then press Upscale image. The AI runs in your browser.
  3. Compare the result with the original using the slider and zoom, then download it as PNG, JPG or WebP.

Questions about this tool

Is the AI Image Upscaler free?

Using it and previewing the result are free. Downloading, copying or saving the final result uses 1 export: from £1.00 for 5, or included in a monthly plan. The same result again within 24 hours is free.

What does an AI image upscaler do?

It enlarges an image with a neural network (here Real-ESRGAN) that has learnt how edges, textures and small details usually look. Instead of just stretching pixels, which makes pictures blurry or blocky, it fills in that kind of detail, so the bigger image looks sharper. The added detail is the model’s best guess: it can’t recover what was never in the photo.

Can I upscale by 2× or 4×, and how big will the result be?

Both. The result is exactly 2 or 4 times the width and height: a 1,000 × 750 px image becomes 2,000 × 1,500 px at 2×. Because the AI runs on your device, images can be up to 2,048 px on their longest side for 2× and 1,024 px for 4×, so results are at most 4,096 px wide. The tool shows the result size before you start.

Can it fix blurry photos?

It often makes soft, small or slightly blurry images look clearer, and it reduces JPEG blockiness. It can’t rescue badly blurred, out-of-focus or heavily shaken photos, and it may change small text, logos, product labels or faces slightly, so check those before using the image.

Are my images uploaded or stored?

No. The AI model is downloaded to your browser and the upscaling happens on your device, so your image never leaves it and nothing is kept after you close the page.

Which formats are supported?

You can open JPG, PNG and WebP (and GIF, BMP and AVIF) up to 20 MB, and download as PNG, JPG or WebP. Transparency is kept in PNG and WebP; JPG fills transparent areas with white. Photo details such as camera and location (EXIF) aren’t copied into the result.

Can screenshots be blocked?

No website can reliably block or detect screenshots, so we don’t try, and nothing is ever charged for one. Instead the preview shows a “PREVIEW” watermark; the file you download has no watermark.

Is my information uploaded?

No. It works entirely in your browser, so your text and files stay on your device.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers, with nothing to install.
