Merge PDF
Combine several PDF files into one, in the order you choose.
Make scanned PDFs and photos of documents searchable, with selectable text, and get the text itself.
OCR PDF recognises the text in scanned PDFs and photos of documents and adds it as an invisible layer over each page, so you can search, select and copy it, while the pages look exactly the same. You also get the recognised text as a file.
A scanned PDF is a set of pictures, so its words can’t be searched or copied. OCR reads those pictures and adds real text behind them; it doesn’t change how the pages look. Pages that already contain text are skipped unless you ask. To edit the text afterwards, convert the searchable PDF with PDF to Word. Recognition runs in your browser with Tesseract, in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish and Turkish, plus text extraction for Urdu and Arabic. Accuracy depends on the scan, so check important details.
Your PDFs are processed by your own browser (using the open-source pdf-lib and PDF.js libraries), so they’re never uploaded to us or anyone else, and nothing is kept after you close the page. Trying the tool is free; each download uses 1 export (one PDF or one ZIP), and downloading the same result again within 24 hours is free. See pricing.

OCR (optical character recognition) reads the letters in a picture of a page. The tool adds the recognised words as an invisible layer exactly over the picture, so you can search, select and copy the text while the page looks the same.
Clear, straight, well-lit scans of printed text usually come out very well. Handwriting, low resolution, skewed pages, unusual fonts and complex layouts reduce accuracy, so check names, numbers and dates.
English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish and Turkish for searchable PDFs, plus Urdu and Arabic for text extraction. You can choose two languages for mixed documents.
